How to connect Vibe Retail to Claude

Connect your Vibe store to Claude from the Claude directory or as a custom connector, then ask about your sales, items, customers, and payments in plain language.

Connect your Vibe Retail store to Claude, the AI assistant by Anthropic, and ask questions about your business in plain language. For example: "What were my top selling items last week?" or "Show me this customer's recent purchases."

There are two ways to connect:

  • Option 1: The Vibe Retail app in the Claude directory (recommended). Click Connect, sign in to Vibe, and you're done. Takes about a minute.

  • Option 2: Custom connector. Add Vibe to Claude by hand using your store's MCP gateway URL. Use this if the directory app isn't available on your Claude account.

Both options give you the same secure, read-only connection.

How it works

Claude connects to Vibe through a secure gateway built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard Claude uses to work with other apps. Here's what happens behind the scenes:

  1. You sign in with your own Vibe login. Claude sends you to Vibe's sign-in page. You log in there, never inside Claude, so Claude never sees your password.

  2. You approve what Claude can see. Vibe shows an Allow AI access screen listing exactly what Claude is asking for. Nothing is shared until you click Allow.

  3. Vibe gives Claude a secure access key tied to you. The key only works for your store, your employee account, and the data you approved.

  4. Claude looks up answers in Vibe when you ask. When your question is about your store, Claude uses Vibe's read-only tools (search items, look up a sale, list payments, and so on), then answers in plain language.

  5. Vibe checks permissions on every request. Claude only sees what your store's AI settings allow and what your employee account can already see in Vibe.

The connection is read-only. Claude can view your store data but can't create, change, or delete anything. No sales, refunds, price changes, or inventory edits.

What you need

  • A Claude account at claude.ai, or the Claude desktop or mobile app

  • A Vibe Retail employee login

  • AI access turned on for your store. An owner or admin does this once (see the next section).

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan? Your Claude organization owner may need to add or approve the connector for your organization before you can connect.

Before you start: turn on AI access in Vibe

An owner or admin does this once per store. It's required for both options.

  1. In Vibe, go to Store Config. Under Integrations, open ChatGPT / Claude (MCP).

  2. Turn on Allow AI apps to connect.

  3. Under AI allowed capabilities, choose what Claude may see: items and inventory, customers, store locations, sales and receipts, and payments. This is a store-wide limit. Each employee's own Vibe permissions still apply on top of it.

  4. Save your settings.

Option 1: Connect from the Claude directory (recommended)

  1. Open the Vibe Retail app in the Claude directory. You can also find it in Claude under Settings → Connectors by browsing or searching for "Vibe Retail".

  2. Click Connect.

  3. Claude opens the Vibe sign-in page. Log in with your Vibe username and password.

  4. Review the Allow AI access screen. It shows which employee you're signed in as and what Claude will be able to see. Check that Returns to shows claude.ai, then click Allow.

  5. You're sent back to Claude with Vibe Retail connected.

That's it. Start a new chat and ask a question about your store.

Option 2: Add Vibe as a custom connector

Use this if the directory app isn't available on your Claude account, or your team prefers to add connectors by URL.

Step 1: Copy your MCP gateway URL from Vibe

  1. In Vibe, go to Store Config → Integrations → ChatGPT / Claude (MCP).

  2. Make sure Allow AI apps to connect is on.

  3. Next to MCP gateway URL, click the copy button.

Step 2: Add the connector in Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and click Add custom connector.

  2. Enter a name, such as Vibe Retail, and paste the MCP gateway URL as the server URL.

  3. Leave Advanced settings (OAuth Client ID and Secret) blank. Vibe sets this up automatically. Click Add.

  4. Click Connect on the new connector and log in with your Vibe username and password.

  5. On the Allow AI access screen, check that Returns to shows claude.ai, then click Allow.

Tip: Never paste your Vibe password, API keys, or secret tokens into Claude's connector settings. You only ever sign in on Vibe's own login page.

Using Vibe in Claude

Start a new chat and ask. Claude uses Vibe automatically when your question is about your store. If it doesn't, check that Vibe Retail is turned on in the tools menu of the chat box, or add "use Vibe Retail" to your question.

Once connected on claude.ai, Vibe Retail is also available in the Claude desktop and mobile apps when you're signed in to the same Claude account.

Things you can ask

  • "What were my top 10 selling items last week?"

  • "Compare sales across my locations for this month."

  • "Find the customer named Sarah Cohen and show her last 5 purchases."

  • "Which invoices had payments recorded this week?"

  • "Is the blue denim jacket in stock, and what does it sell for?"

  • "Pull up receipt for sale 10452 and tell me what was on it."

What Claude can see

  • Items and inventory: search items and see prices, stock, and item details. Needs access to Items in Vibe.

  • Customers: find customers and view their details. Needs access to Customers.

  • Store locations: list your locations. Needs access to Locations.

  • Sales and receipts: search sales and open a sale's details. Needs access to Sales.

  • Payments: see payments recorded on invoices. Needs the Reports → View payments permission.

Claude gets the overlap of two things: what's turned on in your store's AI allowed capabilities, and what the signed-in employee can already see in Vibe. If an employee can't see something in Vibe, Claude can't see it either. Each person who connects signs in as themselves, so everyone keeps their own level of access.

Security and privacy

  • Read-only. Claude can't make changes in Vibe.

  • Your password stays with Vibe. You sign in on Vibe's login page, never inside Claude.

  • Access follows the employee. If an employee is deactivated or deleted, or their permissions or allowed IP addresses change, their Claude connection is disconnected automatically.

  • You're in control. Disconnect anytime from Settings → Connectors in Claude, or turn off Allow AI apps to connect in Vibe to cut off every AI connection for the store at once.

Changing settings later

If an owner or admin changes the AI allowed capabilities or turns AI access off, all existing Claude connections for the store are disconnected. To reconnect, go to Settings → Connectors in Claude, disconnect Vibe Retail, then connect again and click Allow so the new settings take effect.

Troubleshooting

  • Connecting fails or says access denied: AI access is probably off for your store. Ask an owner or admin to turn on Allow AI apps to connect (see "Before you start").

  • Claude says it can't find data or doesn't have access: Check that the employee you signed in as can see that data in Vibe, and that the capability is turned on in the store's AI settings.

  • The connection stopped working: AI settings or your employee permissions may have changed. Disconnect and reconnect Vibe Retail in Claude.

  • Custom connector won't add: Make sure you pasted the full MCP gateway URL exactly as copied from Vibe, and left Advanced settings blank.

  • Can't find the AI settings in Vibe: Only owners and admins can change them. Ask your store owner, or contact Vibe support.
