What Fulfillments does

Written by Aaron

Every sales line that does not leave with the customer today now gets a method, a live status, and a customer who is kept in the loop. All of it works from one queue.

What it replaces

Special orders used to be a single checkbox on a sale line: you were ordering an item in from a supplier, and that was the only story the register could tell. Stores also ship from other locations, transfer stock in for pickup, and have suppliers ship straight to the customer. None of that had a home.

Fulfillments brings all four into one system. Existing special orders move across on release, so nothing is lost.

The four methods

Take now stays the default. Nothing changes for anything the customer carries out today. The four methods below are what you pick when it does not.

Method

What it means

Stock comes from

Special order

Order the item from your supplier for this customer, then hand it over at your counter.

A purchase order

Ship from location

Another one of your stores packs the item and ships it to the customer.

Transfer in

Bring stock here from another store, then the customer picks it up from you.

Dropship

Your supplier ships straight to the customer. Your shelf is never touched.

Note: A customer is required. A sale cannot be completed with fulfillment lines on it until a customer is attached. Someone has to be waiting for the goods.

Where everything lives

  • Stock management, Fulfillments is the queue.

  • Settings, Fulfillments holds the notification triggers and templates.

  • On the sale screen, each line carries its own fulfillment control.

  • Purchase orders and transfers show who is waiting on them in a Customer orders panel.

  • The customer's file and the register sidebar both list their open orders.
