This guide explains how to set up both USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners for use with your computer or tablet. Follow these steps to ensure your scanner works correctly with your system.

USB Barcode Scanner Setup.

  1. Plug in your scanner.
Connect the USB cable to your computer, or tablet adapter. Most scanners will power on automatically.

  2. Wait for automatic detection.
Your device should recognize the scanner as a keyboard input. You can test this by opening a text field (like a note or search box) and scanning any barcode. If the barcode appears as text, the scanner is ready.

  3. Adjust your settings (optional).

    • Open the scanner’s quick-start guide to enable “Enter” or “Tab” after every scan, if needed.

    • You can also scan configuration barcodes from the manufacturer’s manual to change sound, prefix/suffix, or data formatting.

Bluetooth Barcode Scanner Setup

  1. Turn on pairing mode.
Hold the Bluetooth or power button until the indicator light starts flashing.

  2. Connect to your device.
On your computer, go to Bluetooth Settings and select your scanner from the list of available devices. Confirm pairing if prompted.

  3. Test the connection.
Open a text field in Vibe and scan a barcode. If numbers or letters appear, your scanner is paired successfully.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If scans aren’t showing up, unplug and reconnect the scanner or restart your POS terminal.

  • Ensure the scanner is set to Keyboard (HID) mode, not Serial (COM) mode.

  • For Bluetooth scanners, check that the scanner is still connected in your Bluetooth settings.

  • Use the scanner’s factory reset barcode (found in its manual) if you need to start fresh.
